The Emperor's New Clothes

In this, the Fashion Issue of culture, we are swimming in new looks from the runways - from the A-list salons, from media, from the street. Here at culture we think fashion is more than just what you wrap around your limbs, or what shape you bend your hair into. We think fashion (or style) lives in a vacuum unless there is a genuine spirit permeating the marriage of clothes, hair, make-up and accessories - with the crucial ingredient being confidence and ‘happiness in one's own skin'.

We honour those within our ranks who step back and consider such sometimes ‘unfashionable' basics as discretion, understated-ness and elegance. But most importantly, don't just run with the pack. Dare to be who you truly are.

As Coco Chanel famously encouraged all who aspire to true style: "In order to be irreplaceable one must always be different."

Enjoy this issue of culture. We honour all those who contribute to our beautiful portal of style, beauty and grace.
