Runway.
Bright Young Things.
Hair Expo is the perfect platform for showcasing hot new talent in the Australian hairdressing industry, and for 2010 it flew the flag for the young ‘uns loud and proud. Enter Generation Next, presenting a plethora of talented stylists from grassroots up in their quest to present the best of national and international styling. Ladies and gentleman, please welcome our future heroes…
Variety is indeed the spice of life, and bigger certainly meant better as Generation Next celebrated the second day of Hair Expo with no less than ten mini shows to commence the evening in true style. From talented apprentices through to hairdressing heavyweights, everyone was on hand to lend a stylish hand to the runway, and with exceptional results.
Pivot Point Academy gave audiences a taste of the future with eight young teams of academy students producing fashion forward looks. Nischler Salon (Hobart) offered a glimpse into the evolution of hair from its most primitive form through to contemporary shapes, and KoBu (Melbourne) was on hand for some serious styling.
But what’s fabulous hair without fabulous style to match? Sochi (Melbourne) jumped ahead in the style stakes for some trend-setting hair with all the trimmings, and Angio Xcentrix from the UK F.A.M.E Team jumped onboard the fashion bandwagon with his flapper meets fashionista street styling.
Avant-garde delights were on offer courtesy of the Australian F.A.M.E Team, and Skatt, (Perth) transformed basic shapes into 3D structural masterpieces, delighting audiences in the process. Spectators were kept excited with a unique aerial view cut and colouring spectacular thanks to the very talented Lee Nesbit and Tracy Nguyen.
Proceedings took a naughty turn when The Art of Hair (Sydney) took to the stage for Agent Provocateur, a raunchy and seductive performance, whereas Made in Paris Hair (Sydney) served up an international feast inspired by the sensuality of Moulin Rouge… saucy!
Matrix is always one to watch when it comes to showcasing hot new talent, and the Generation Next Gala was the perfect example for Matrix to present its latest protégé. Matrix Global Team Member and Canadian Hairdresser of the Year 2010 Darek Wierzbicki is no stranger to haute hair and haute expectations, and styling hit dizzy new heights as he took to the stage. Extravagance was the name of the game during Darek’s highly anticipated performance, featuring haute couture looks with a sprinkling of buckles and buttons for added measure.
Centring on huge avant-garde wefts and hairpieces, Darek’s styling was all about the spectacle, featuring daring colours, serious height and volume and bundles of soft, elaborate curls. With models taking to the runway cloaked in all white and a sparkling finale, Darek certainly introduced himself to Australian shores with a bang.
