Runway.
Class of 2010.
Never underestimate the power of a good education. That’s what the folks used to tell us anyway, so they’d be pretty pleased to learn that while we were at Hair Expo 2010 there were all manner of educational treats to get those brains of ours whirring into action. Showcasing the very best of Australian and international industry talent, here’s a peek at the seminars that got culture excited at this year’s Hair Expo…
Sharon Blain ticks all the boxes when it comes to teaching us how to do fancy things with hair, and her Agent Provocateur seminar was a huge talking point of the weekend. Presenting eight models with brand new styles especially designed for the seminar, stunning 50’s and 60’s styles featured alongside couture gowns. From session styling to haute couture, no stone was left unturned!
The Mahogany UK Creative Team popped in from across the pond to say hi and showcase their Collection Garconne, while the Sassoon Academy UK Creative Team were on hand to provide some fashion forward looks and edgy London style.
Fresh from the grand old US was Paul Mitchell Global Artistic Director Stephanie Kocielski, whose seminar aimed to invigorate and expose key aspects of the Paul Mitchell philosophy for spectators to apply to their own salons. The bubbly personality kept audiences entertained throughout her 90-minute insight into all things Paul Mitchell.
Flying the flag for homegrown talent was Jayne Wild and the Wild Life Hair team, who inspired audiences and offered insider info from the Wild Life world with their 20/10 Precision Vision seminar. Featuring colours, wet cuts and elaborate hairpieces, the seminar was compared by Jayne Wild, and offered some good old-fashioned entertainment. “We had great feedback, and it’s always so good to know that the audience enjoyed watching it as much as we enjoyed sharing it,” Jayne enthuses.
Sue Morgan and team upped the ante in their It’s a Matter of Chic seminar, where Stelios Papas lent an experienced hand to the proceedings and got audiences excited with some serious styling. L’Oréal Professionnel and Caterina Di Biase explored the possibilities of the INOA colour palette in Colour Revolution.
Taking it back to basics for some unadulterated colouring were Kristina Russell, Matt Clements, Dieter Mersmann and Alyson Schoer, who shunned fancy hairpieces and wefts in favour of a stripped down approach to what they know best – the art of colour. From freehand techniques through to hi chroma colour, this was organic colouring at its very best.
Those seeking a one-stop shop for first class know-how looked no further than Performing at Your Best. A veritable who’s who of the Australian hairdressing industry the seminar featuring Brad Ngata, Kenneth Stoddart and Jayne Wild and Gary Latham from Wild Life Hair, amongst other industry names. Chaired by hairdressing tour de force Sharon Blain, spectators were treated to hints and tips to pull off a show stopping demonstrations and their personal experiences of rising to the top of the game.
So there you have it, another year of Hair Expo education in the bag. Hope you made lots of notes!
